"My Hands"
There
is a legend that tells of an old church in Europe that was
bombed during World War II. Inside the church, a beautiful
statue of Jesus with his arms outstretched was damaged,
the hands destroyed. After the war, Allied troops entered
the town and began cleanup. There was much discussion between
the troups and the townspeople as to how the statue should
be repaired. Finally, a soldier hung a sign around the neck
of the statue, reading, "Christ has no hands but mine."
Legend has it that the statue has been left unrepaired,
and the sign remains to this day. I love this story, which
inspired this 8"x10" sampler. It features an appliqued
heart within an outlined hand.
